How you moved through the environment
I became more agreeable over time, not because I changed my views, but because disagreeing started to feel dangerous.
I learned to read a meeting before I spoke in it. Sometimes I decided not to speak at all.
I stopped bringing certain ideas because I was no longer sure they would land, or that I would be protected if they didn't.
I worked harder when I felt my position was at risk, as if performance was the thing that would protect me.
What the environment did to your thinking
Something happened that I could explain rationally, but that still made me question whether the problem was me.
I experienced a moment where I was publicly undermined, and no one said anything. Including me.
I trusted someone above me who later made it clear the trust was not mutual.
I spent time trying to identify what I had done wrong in a situation where I had not actually done anything wrong.
What you carried forward
When I am challenged now, my first instinct is sometimes to pull back rather than stay present.
I sometimes hesitate to take up space in a room, even when I know I have the most relevant experience in it.
There is a version of me that existed before a certain environment that I have been trying to find my way back to.
I can perform confidence. What I am less sure about is whether I fully trust my own judgment the way I once did.
What reinvention actually asks of you
I have updated my resume and my LinkedIn. What has not caught up yet is how I present myself when someone asks what I am looking for next.
I know the direction. What I cannot fully picture yet is myself in it, speaking about it with the ease I used to have.
I know what direction I want to go. What stalls me is something underneath the strategy.
I can walk into a room and perform confidence well enough that nobody would know. What I am less certain of is whether I believe what I am saying.
